Employers
The total number of employers with active contributing members was 14,992 compared to 14,448 in 2022.* Before 2020 a figure for total number of employers was accumulated. This figure included funds who reported a total based on employers with active, deferred and/or pensioner members and others who reported a total number of employers only with active members. This total figure is considered too inconsistent to report and was amended to include only employers with active membership.
CIPFA annual report guidance was updated for 2014 to included provision of an employer table with the aim of providing clear and accurate figures the total number of active and ceased and scheduled and admitted employers. Tables were only provided in 53% of instances (excluding funds from which annual reports were not available).
Average number of employers per fund by type of administering authority
|
The chart shows how the average number of employers differs between the types of administering authority. County council administered funds typically have more participating employers compared with London boroughs. The 'Other' category comprises the London Pension Fund Authority and the Environment Agency funds (for the purpose of administration, City of London is included in London Boroughs).
* Where 2022 figures were not published in the draft annual report, or otherwise sourced, the 2021 figure was used.
