The Board held its second Annual Assembly on 22 October, bringing together Pension Committee and Local Pension Board Chairs from across the LGPS to discuss key issues affecting the Scheme. Attendees received updates on the Board’s workplan, alongside administration and training developments from the LGPC and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). Panel sessions also brought together fellow chairs, an Independent Person and an LGPS senior officer to discuss their experiences, offer practical insights and explore the opportunities and challenges facing the LGPS.

The Assembly explored a range of topics, including effective governance, the roles and responsibilities of those involved in scheme management, constructive challenge and the practical realities of chairing. Discussions also covered administration pressures, investment oversight, funding matters, and opportunities for training and development.

A key feature of the event was the opportunity for peer networking. Chairs were able to share experiences, discuss common challenges and exchange ideas with colleagues from across the LGPS, helping to strengthen relationships and encourage greater collaboration across the Scheme.

We would like to thank the Chairs representing 37 LGPS funds who attended and contributed to a valuable and successful event. Their insights and engagement helped make the Assembly an important forum for discussion, learning and shared understanding.
